Care and Maintenance

The best care for your WLC pen holders.

Even products made with the very best raw materials, from the wood that is stored in a climate controlled environment to the state of the art finishes that are used, will still need proper care and maintenance so that they maintain their function and appearance for years to come.

Pen holders should be cleaned with a damp cloth and a mild dish soap or Murphy’s Oil Soap.  Windex or rubbing alcohol may be used if more cleaning power is needed, but use care to limit the exposure time.  After cleaning all chemicals should be wiped free of the surface with a damp cloth and then dried.

Over time a furniture wax may be used if desired to polish the pen holder.  If a wax is desired only a hard drying wax should be used, this type of wax contains large amounts of carnauba wax which will leave a smooth dry film that does not feel waxy or greasy.  My favorite is Briwax but there are other good choices.  Never use a soft wax like beeswax or those that contain oil as they will leave a sticky dull sheen and provides little to no protection.

  • Try to avoid placing pens under running water.
  • Never soak a pen in water or any cleaning solution.
  • Never leave cleaning chemicals on the pen.
  • Never use beeswax.

Leather care for blotters, rolls, and cases.

Over time your leather Items may need to be cleaned and conditioned to maintain appearance and flexibility.  For cleaning I recommend using Fiebing’s saddle soap or 4 way care leather conditioner, if no cleaning is required but the leather is hard and dry than either pure neatsfoot oil (use sparingly) or the 4 way care leather conditioner may be used to soften the leather.  The use of other products or excess use of the products that I have listed may case the leather to change color and or become oily and transfer residue to other items that come in contact.
